Wildcat Exploration has completed the early drilling campaign that includes three holes, totaling 510 m, on two targets located at the Burntwood property. This property is situated in the productive Thompson Nickel Belt.
The Burntwood property has 58 claims, situated around 55 km towards the southwest part of Thompson in Manitoba. Anglo American’s exploration unit optioned this property. The company planned to drill two holes, totaling 400 m. Wildcat made a decision to drill a third hole below the second hole. The location of the drill areas are about 6 km to the eastern portion of Highway 6 near Phillips Lake. Drilling assisted by helicopter was focused on two anomalies, discovered during a VTEM aerial electromagnetic and magnetic survey by Anglo American.
The company’s drilling cut granite gneisses and Archean granites of the ultramafic and mafic rocks of the Ospwagan group, and Superior Craton. The Ospwagan rocks group has the prolific copper and copper deposits in the Thompson belt. The hole TB-2011 02 cut irregular dispersed and fracture-filled sulphide zones found in huge and brecciated peridotitic rocks. The company has submitted the drill core samples to TSL Laboratories for analysis. The geologists of Wildcat will follow up the downhole pulse electromagnetic surveys, which were planned to identify the occurrence and direction of the mineralized off-hole sulphides.
