RJ Lee Group, Inc., materials characterization laboratory and industrial forensic consulting firm, has expanded its geological services capabilities to include mine exploration, mineralogical site assessments, 3D block modeling, due diligence for mining valuation and other collaborative services traditionally sought by quarry operators.
Mr. Dan Linder, certified professional geologist (CPG), formerly with Vulcan Materials Company where he was Manager of Geological and Mine Planning Services, will lead the field team. These additional services both complement and extend RJ Lee Group’s analytical laboratory, air monitoring and environmental health and safety (EH&S) capabilities.
According to the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA), one of the major concerns in quarry operations is natural occurrences of asbestos (NOA). Igneous and metamorphic rock quarries and S&G pits have the potential to contain NOA. Mr. Linder pointed out, “Six asbestiform minerals are currently regulated as asbestos by the U.S. EPA, MSHA and OSHA because of their proven health risks, and a proper mineralogical site assessment should be conducted for any suspect operations.” In the area of due diligence, Mr. Linder noted, “Any time that a mining company divests its operations or plans an acquisition, or whenever there is a need to identify or assess significant factors affecting future operation such as expansion of operations, a major plant reconstruction or even reactivating an old site, due diligence is required to realistically assess if the area can be mined, the value of the asset, any existing or potential liability, or market demand.”
