Iran Planning to Build 10 New Uranium Enrichment Plants

With Iran expanding its uranium base as per the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nation’s Security Council has imposed a fourth round of economic sanctions on the country. It has also brought forth a strong international reaction especially from the French.

There are plans for around ten new uranium enrichment plants to be built in protected mountain sites in Iran. This announcement was made on state television, the uranium enrichment plans are in the final stages by Iran’s atomic chief Ali Akbar Salehi.

This move has considerable opposition from the UN, yet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad signed a new law on Monday binding Tehran to pursue the refining of uranium 20%. The law is called Safeguarding the Islamic Republic of Iran's Peaceful Nuclear Achievements.

Currently Iran is refining uranium at two plants located at Natanz and Fordo. The third uranium enrichment plant will be built by Iran as early as 2011.
