Avocet Mining has said that the year ending December 31 has seen a pre-tax profit of $33.55 million. They reported this exceptional increase of 221% as the prices of gold rose and so did their output in 2010.

Panama's Ngöbe-Buglé indigenous groups are protesting against open pit mining. Large groups blocked the Pan-American highway to protest mining laws that don't forbid exploiting mineral reserves in indigenous areas. The Cerro Colorado mine, on Ngöbe-Buglé territory, is thought to contain one of the world's largest copper reserves.

A cyclone of the north west mining coast of Australia has brought damage to homes and closure to offshore oil rigs. Ports handling iron ore exports have also been forced to shut down as per officials. The tropical cyclone Carlos measured two on a five point scale.
Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG) has reported mineral resources at its wholly-owned Snowfield Project of 25.9 million ounces of Measured and Indicated gold resources and 9.0 million ounces of Inferred gold resources at a cut-off grade of 0.30 grams of gold-equivalent per tonne. The Snowfield Project is located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart, British Columbia.
