Asia Now Resources Corp. (TSX VENTURE:NOW) has announced that the Company now has 11 rigs drilling at Beiya North adjacent to the open-pit Beiya Gold Mine, the largest gold mine in Yunnan Province of China, whose production capacity has been increased to 200,000 ounces of gold annually.
The Mayor of Grey District Tony Kokshoorn wants an open cast mine at Pike River, New Zealand. The mine which has been shut down since November 19, 2010 after an explosion which killed 29 miners still has $6 billion worth of coal underground. This is money that would greatly boost the New Zealand’s west coast economy.

Colombian mine workers at Cerrejon have agreed to a compromise on pay. Cerrejon is owned collectively by BHB Billiton, Xstrata and Anglo American and is the largest coal exporting mine in Colombia
Last week's cyclone Yasi has compounded the floods from December for Australia’s Queensland coal mines. The economic impact of the natural disaster is now being felt on foreign shores, specifically India.

The Philippines government seems to be set on putting its mining industry in order with the President Benigno Aquino III declaring an indefinite ban on logging nationwide and Environment Secretary Ramon Paje saying that almost 500 inactive mining permits had been suspended.
