Beach Energy Drills Bauer-5 Well in PEL-91

Beach Energy announced that it has extended the Bauer oil field by drilling Bauer-5 in PEL-91 (Beach 40% and operator, Drillsearch 60%). Bauer-5 intercepted the main Namur target over 1 m high to prognosis at a high-grade cache/reservoir.

Bauer-5 Namur Oil Intersection and New Pool Oil Discovery

From this emerged 6 m of net oil pay, which reiterated the Namur reserve to the northeast of the Bauer oil field. Yield rates are anticipated to be similar to those of earlier completed wells and the effect on the reserves would be confirmed with further evaluation drilling.

The Birkhead deposit, the second target of the Bauer-5 well, came across a 5 m oil column. The interval was drill stem tested, with a yield of 1160 barrels a day of 48.3 degree API oil which rose to the surface in 28 minutes. The additional mean redeemable barrels from Bauer-5 are difficult to estimate because of the stratigraphic characteristic of the Birkhead reserve. However, the well will probably have an effect on the field by way of 2P reserves. The well will be cased and suspended as a future oil producer.

After conclusion of the estimation procedure, the Ensign 930 rig will be transferred to the Bauer-7 well situated about 1 km southwest of Bauer-5.

According to Reg Nelson, Managing Director of Beach, the positive outcomes of the evaluation augurs good for the future of the Bauer oil field and improves the knowledge of the oil reserves that trend northeast of Bauer. Namur was the principal target of the Bauer-5 appraisal well, but the discovery of the Birkhead reserve was the first in PEL 91. Nelson further added that the company had finished 3D seismic along the trend column and have discovered a few intriguing possibilities which they intended to explore during fiscal year 2013.
