The US Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the State of Arizona has awarded Morrison-Knudsen Corporation a $380 million environmental clean up contract at a former copper, gold and zinc smelter near Apache Junction, Arizona.

The scope of the work involves demolition and reclamation ot the copper and gold facilities making the site presentable to put the abandoned property up for lease again by the State. The site has proven copper, gold and zinc reserves which the State anticipates it will put up for bid within two years. The contract includes upgrading the road into the site to AZDOT standards.

"We are honored to start another project with the Corps of Engineers as our history with them as a customer dates back to the 1920s," commented Earl Fishback, Vice President of the Company's environmental division. "It demonstrates the continuation of MK's long term relationship with the Corps and our commitment to both the environment and the mining industry itself."
