KROHNE Highlights OPTIFLUX 4400 for Automated Partial Proof Testing in SIL 2/3 Safety Applications

KROHNE, a leading provider of industrial process instrumentation, highlights the OPTIFLUX 4400 electromagnetic flowmeter for safety instrumented systems and applications with high-accuracy measurement requirements. Certified for safety applications up to SIL 2/3 and developed in accordance with IEC 61508, the flowmeter is designed to help plant operators support functional-safety objectives while maintaining reliable process measurement.

A key capability of the OPTIFLUX 4400 is its automated partial proof test function. The technology can extend the time interval between full proof tests, helping users increase plant uptime while supporting documentation and execution of partial proof testing in safety instrumented systems.

The flowmeter performs its diagnostic test, including fault response time, in two minutes. If the meter operates outside its specified range, it issues an alert. Enhanced diagnostics compliant with NAMUR NE 107 identify process and device conditions including gas bubbles, solids, electrode corrosion or deposits, conductivity changes, empty or partially filled pipes, disturbed flow profiles and external magnetic fields.

In addition to its safety-related capabilities, the OPTIFLUX 4400 provides a measuring error of ±0.2% of measured value ±1 mm/s. Integrated conductivity measurement, redundant data storage and a real-time clock for event logging further support process monitoring and verification requirements.

A user-friendly colored display provides status indication, while reduced menu items support quick commissioning. For applicable non-SIL applications, a virtual reference option enables installation without grounding rings.

The OPTIFLUX 4400 is available in SIL 2/3 configurations through DN600, or 24 inches, and in non-SIL configurations through DN2000, or 80 inches. Larger sizes are available on request. A selection of liner and electrode materials enables the flowmeter to be configured for different process requirements.

The electromagnetic flowmeter is approved for hazardous-area use with ATEX and IECEx db eb approvals. It supports pulse, frequency, status, 4–20 mA and HART outputs. Users can conduct field verification with KROHNE OPTICHECK Master and OPTICHECK DTM service tools, including partial proof test documentation in accordance with IEC 61508.
