Asciano Signs 10 Year Coal Hauling Contract with Anglo American

Asciano Group has signed a 10 year coal hauling contract with the mining company Anglo American. The deal is set to generate revenues of more than $775 million.

Anglo American is one of the world’s largest diversified mining groups. Their unique portfolio of high quality mining assets and natural resources includes platinum group metals and diamonds, with significant interests in copper, iron ore, metallurgical coal, nickel and thermal coal, as well as a divestment portfolio of other mining and industrial businesses.

The Aciano group operates in Africa, Europe, South and North America, Australia and Asia. Asciano will transport 16.5 million tonnes of coal a year. 5.75 million tonnes will come from Moranbah North mine and 10.9 million tonnes will come from German Creek serviced by QR National. Asciano will be procuring four new trains to service the additional volumes required by the deal.
