Survival Guide for Australian Miners and their Mining Families
In a bid to help mining families the organization Mining Family Matters has released a report full of useful information to help battle the stress of having a family member working in the mining industry. The co-founder of the organization Alicia Ranford said that choosing to work in the mining industry can not only affect you, but your entire family.
Ms Ranford said that there was a need for information in the community that would help people deal with the unique challenges that come along with working in the mining industry. It is based on her personal experience of being a miner’s wife for over 12 years. The report that was put up on their website in early March.
With fly-in fly-out workers on the increase in the industry there are big issues with parents about connecting with their children. Fly-in fly-out Dads find it complicated to bond with their children and act the traditional disciplinarian role out.
It isn’t just the Fly-in fly-out workers who have it tough. The need to frequently relocate while working in the mining industry is also a major challenge for families. The 32 page survival guide addresses issues such as living apart, coping without the family member and problems created by fly-in fly-out rosters.
