Condor Petroleum has started drilling operations at the Kiyaktysay North-3 (KN-3) in Zharkamys West 1 Territory, Kazakhstan.
The location of the KN-3 well is targeting the similar Triassic geologic play, which led to the discovery of Shoba. The company has planned to drill to a depth of 1000 m at KN-3 and the well is situated 17 km southeast of Shoba.
The company has commenced the field acquisition of a 1,280 km2 three-dimensional seismic program in Zharkamys’ southeast area, which is planned to image the deeper pre-salt and sub-canopy plays and shallow Triassic plays. Condor has planned to complete this program in the fourth quarter of 2011, which at that time 90% of Zharkamys will be imaged with the high resolution three-dimensional seismic information.
Don Streu, CEO and President of the company, has stated that Condor is progressing to explore and assess several play types on the territory using three-dimensional seismic program. The company considers the application of this method is to lessen the risk of exploration while offering essential data to advance the commercial growth activities.
