Underwater Mine Gets Government Approval - Opposition Rallies

Papua New Guinea has approved a deep sea mineral mine causing scientists and indigenous people to react with alarm. The new mine is to be run by a Canadian company called Nautilus Minerals. The approval was licensed by the prime minster of Papua New Guinea, Mr Michael Somare today.

Freeport-McMoRan Reports Rise in Profits and Jobs at El Chino

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc has reported a 27% rise in third quarter profits as revenue was boosted by higher metal prices. The spot market prices for gold have risen to record highs and they account for the largest share of the company's revenue despite gold sales volume being less in the third quarter.

Indian Iron Ore Exports Drop by 47%

Iron ore exports in India saw the sharpest monthly drop that they have had in 2 years in September as exports dropped by 47%. India shipped 3.02 million tonnes of iron ore in September 2010 as compared to 5.7 million tonnes in September 2009.

Local opposition in the west Canadian province of Saskatchen to the BHP Billiton bid is growing with premier Brad Wall supporting the levy of a provincial resource transfer tax on BHP Billiton worth Canadian $3 to 6 billion. He said that they have to get the right number to make sure that the revenue of Saskatchewan is protected.

Lara Exploration Signs Agreement to Sell Interest in Liberdade Copper Project

Orogen Gold to Buy Stake in Reservoir Capital's Deli Jovan Gold Project

Reservoir Capital Corp. (TSX VENTURE:REO)(FRANKFURT:ROC)(BERLIN:ROC) has reported that it has completed a Letter Agreement whereby Dublin-based Orogen Gold Limited can earn up to a 75% interest in the Company's Deli Jovan Gold Project by investing $3.5 million in exploration expenditures within 42 months.
