The Democratic Republic of Congo is going to lift the ban on mining in the eastern sector in March 2010. The Mines Minister Martin Kabwelulu said on Tuesday that the ban on mining activities and exports that was applied to North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema would be lifted.

Western Australian finances have gone from a deficit to an opening surplus of $1.1 billion piggybacking on the higher royalties for iron ore this year. The strong earnings from the mining sector have shown the surplus for the first six months of the 2010-11 financial year.
The government of Papua New Guinea has decided to go ahead with the world's first deep sea mine despite protests from local advocacy groups. The company Nautilus Minerals has been granted a licence in January this year to extract gold and copper from the sea floor.

In the next financial year Australia will earn $251 billion from commodity exports as per the forecasts from the federal government. With the mining boom looking good for another decade and the prices for farm goods like wheat, cotton and sugar rising the export earnings for the country will most likely rise by 9% compared to the last financial year.
