Semafo Inc. announced this week that it was expanding the yearly capacity of the processing plant at its mine in Burkina Faso. The Mana Mine will see an extra 26,000 to 30,000 ounces of gold being produced for the company which is based in Montreal. This is the fourth phase of plant expansion at the mine.

Acadian Mining Corp has signed a letter of intent with Selwyn Resources Ltd. to sell its zinc and lead assets in Canada. The miner has decided that it wishes to focus on gold exploration only. The sale of the assets will generate Canadian $10 million for the company.

The Marandoo iron ore mine owned by Rio Tinto has seen developments which would possibly extend its life by another 16 years. The mining giant has now approved a $933 million investment in to the mine which will see its life span extended to 2030.
