Seequent & Tect Launch Leapfrog Geo Masterclasses in Africa for Mining and Exploration 3D Geological Modelling

Seequent, the developer of 3D geological modelling software Leapfrog® and South Africa-based Tect Geological Consulting have announced the roll-out of Leapfrog Geo Masterclasses in Africa in 2019.  The Masterclasses, for those in Geology-related disciplines in mining and exploration, will start in Zambia in April, with Ghana and Tanzania to follow.  The initiative supports Seequent’s continued growth in Africa.

Dr Ian Basson, Founder and Principal Member, Tect Geological Consulting

“We’re pleased to collaborate with Tect, leading structural-economic geologists, to bring expert Leapfrog Geo training to new regions in Africa. Our goal is to ensure users have the skills to use the full functionality of the software on their mining and minerals projects, specifically in terms of representing very complex structural geology,” says Nick Fogarty, GM Mining & Minerals at Seequent, a world leader in visual data science software.

Leapfrog Geo sets the standard for 3D geological modelling in the industry, complementing workflows and improving decision-making. Its direct-from-data modelling allows users to build models faster, streamline processes, and easily duplicate and visualise models from even highly complex data.  Dynamic modelling allows users to make decisions based on the latest data, with auditable workflows for easy tracking and rapid, compelling visualisation for clear, fast communication. Training time is reduced due to an intuitive interface.

The Masterclasses are aimed at experienced Leapfrog Geo users who would like to further their 3D modelling skills, whilst applying Leapfrog Geo to structurally-complex volumes. Practical examples and real-world data from complex structural settings will be used to show how Leapfrog addresses a wide variety of 3D geo-modelling needs throughout the mining life cycle.

Training will be led by Dr Ian Basson, the founder of Tect Geological Consulting, an industry leader in the application of structural geology and fully-constrained 3D geo-modelling to exploration projects and deposits at all stages of development.

Dr Basson says, “The aim is to enable Leapfrog Geo users to fully utilize modelling tools – particularly structural modelling tools - and to build upon these within the context of streamlined modelling workflows and industry best-practice.  Application of these techniques will allow users to integrate multiple, apparently disparate data sets into relatively complex geometries within exploration and mining projects.”

The Masterclass is modular, with step-by-step methodology applied to three real-world examples which guide the user in: establishment of modelling workflows, advanced vein modelling, form surface interpolation, integration of multiple datasets to solve complex structural problems, structural domaining, the use of oriented drillcore, and industry best-practices. Attendees will be exposed to published Leapfrog Geo models and their underlying workflows.

Fogarty adds, “We’re looking forward to showcasing Leapfrog Geo’s capabilities to a broader range of users across Geology-related disciplines.”

The first Leapfrog Geo Masterclass in Africa will be held at the Kansanshi Hotel in Solwezi, Zambia on 4th & 5th April, 2019.  Masterclasses in Accra, Ghana and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania will follow.  For more information visit the Leapfrog website.
