Longview Coal Terminal Approved
A coal terminal that has been proposed in Longview, Washington State could be sending major coal exports to Asia within the next couple of years. The company which hopes to develop the terminal, Ambre Energy, received approval on Tuesday from the Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners.
The Australian company will be allowed to renovate an existing dock on the Columbia River in addition to building facilities on a 460 acre landsite to receive by rail and dispatch by ship the coal it will handle.
The project will take $130 million and 18 months to build but will be able to annually handle 5 million metric tonnes of coal per year. It will also have the capacity to export 250,000 tons of cement and 350,000 tons of alumina per years.
The two shore line development projects were voted to approval unanimously by the three Cowlitz County Commissioners. A unit of Ambre Energy, Millenium Bulk Logistics will repair the existing dock and build the dust control equipment along with a stockpile area to store coal. The land belongs to Alcoa inc which will lease it to Millenium.
