Dune Energy Sets Casing on S Prospect at Garden Island Bay Field

Dune Energy has set a casing at 13,062 feet on its SL 214 #916 well  at Garden Island Bay Field, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. A total depth of 13,078 feet has drilled and a five -inch casing to the well to a depth of 13,062 feet.

The well has been identified as a 6-foot pay zone at 12,504 feet on water and about 24-foot zone at 12,708 feet.

Evaluation of this zone for electric wireline logs was  put off due to mechanical conditions of the wellbore, whereas the drilling revealed  mud log shows. If a new well data is integrated with seismic data then the wellbore is used to complete the 12,708 feet zone, or to sidetrack the well updip for a structurally privileged location. Another alternative is to deepen the well at its current site to a total depth of 14,000-foot.

The primary purpose of the well is to get 170 series sands between 13,000 and 14,000 feet, that is not yet achieved. It is expected that completion, sidetrack or deepening will take place again in May.

Dune has 15% operational interest in SL 214 #1, a 19,500-foot subsalt well previously and is now setting 20-inch casing at 2,512 feet. When this casing is done, the company has planned to drill around 11,000 feet of salt and fix a 14-inch casing close to the base of the salt and then drill out Miocene interval between 13,400 and 19,500 feet. Test results will be received in May or June.

Dune identifies hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the #916 well and gives proof of seismic analysis in this new field. Seventeen dissimilar prospects use depth-migrated three-dimensional  seismic data for development. In order to develop oil potential the best profitable use of this wellbore must be determined.
