Independence was incorporated in May 2000 for the purpose of discovering world-class ore bodies in Australia, focusing on gold and nickel. It is focused on creating shareholder wealth through the discovery of large high-grade gold or nickel deposits. In September 2002 the Company acquired the Long Nickel Mine, and became a nickel producer in October 2002. This operation is providing a substantial cash flow to the Company, which enables Independence to invest in exploration as well as provide funding for future growth.
The Company also owns 30% of the Tropicana Gold Project. AngloGold Ashanti holds 70% interest and is Manager of the joint venture. A Bankable Feasibility Study on the +5M gold ounce project is in progress.
