(TSX:NOM)(BVLAC:NOM) announced today that they have entered into an agreement pursuant to which HudBay has agreed to acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Norsemont that HudBay does not already own by way of formal take-over bid. The transaction values the equity of Norsemont at approximately $520 million, on a fully-diluted basis.

Xstrata owned Blakesfield mine in New South Wales shut down operations following a fire. There were 50 employees working in the mine when the fire erupted but they were all evacuated safely from the mine as per the spokesman for Xstrata, James Rickards.

Newcrest Mining is being sued by a member of parliament over its Hidden Valley gold project in Papua New Guinea. The barely three month old mine has seen legal action being filed against it over flood damage to crops being grown in the region.
Canadian company Magnetation Inc. will team up with Cargill Inc to boost its iron ore production from 150,000 metric tons per year to 450,000 metric tons. The exact details of the deal were not revealed by the two companies but Cargill will help Magnetation to take its proprietary separation technology global.

A bid of $8 billion is expected from Xstrata for Drummond’s Colombian thermal coal arm. The Anglo Swiss mining giant is interested in the company which is the second largest coal mining company of Colombia. It is owned by a family business based in Alabama.
