Dubai is looking forward to new energy options such as clean coal and nuclear power. Currently the Middle East nation generates almost all of its energy by burning natural gas. It hopes to generate 20% from clean coal and another 20% from nuclear energy in the future.

TransAlta Corp has said that it intends to build a natural gas extension to its Sundance Coal Plant in Alberta. The combined cycle plant will replace the power generated by a coal fired generator at its facility near Edmonton.

Vedanta Resources (LSE: VED) has posted a 79% growth in net profit to $337 million for the first half ending on September 30, 2010 as compared to $188.2 million in the corresponding period last year. The operating profit was also higher for the company.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met seperately on Thursday at the G20 leaders summit to sign an agreement on nuclear energy. The deal will involve Australia selling uranium to Russia under strict safeguards.

The price of copper ore shot up to a record high riding on the Chinese demand wave. The benchmark copper contract went up by 2.5 % on the London Metal Exchange to a record value of $8,966 per tonne. This went beyond the 2008 record price of $8,940 per tonne.
