The Australian Greens leader Bob Brown is due to visit a southwest Queensland community on Tuesday in regard to a resource project which has been earmarked on prime agricultural land at Felton. The Friends of Felton lobby group has been campaigning against the project by Ambre Energy.
The open cut mine planned at Felton, southwest of Brisbane, is part of a $3.5 billion coal to petrol project. The lobby group claims that the project will have a huge impact on agriculture, the environment and the community.
Senator Bob Brown and Queensland Senate candidate Larissa Waters are to meet with the campaigners. Senator Brown is also asking Environment Minister Peter Garrett to ban coal seam gas mining and exploration until adequate environmental protections are in place.
He has also criticized the scrapping of the RSPT saying that the end result will be higher taxes for Australians. This would result from the loss of mining taxes due to the compromised deal that Julia Gillard has made with the mining majors.
