Vallar of Nathaniel Rothschild and Bakrie Group Partner on Indonesian Coal
Vallar of Nathaniel Rothschild and the Bakrie family of Indonesia have joined forces to dominate the booming Indonesian coal exports sector. The publicly traded investment vehicle set up by Nathaniel Rothschild is aiming to create an Indonesian resource champion that would be listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The mining investment company intends to buy a 25% stake in Bumi Resources and a 75% stake in Berau Coal Energy. It will help the Bakrie Group to regroup and consolidate its coal mining assets. J.P. Morgan Cazenove acted as financial adviser to Vallar in relation to the Bumi transaction and Credit Suisse acted as financial adviser to Bumi and the Bakrie Group in relation to the transaction
Vallar will make the deal with a combination of $3 billion cash and new Vallar shares. Vallar will also be renamed Bumi as part of the deal. The new company would be headed by Ari Hudaya as the chief executive.
Ari Hudaya said that it was a very excited time to be a mining company in Indonesia. He said that given the strength of demand from China and India, and they were ideally located to capitalize on that growing demand.
