Legacy Iron Ore Starts Phase 2 Drilling at Mt Bevan

Legacy Iron Ore has begun its second phase of drilling exploration at the Mt Bevan Iron Ore Project. The deep reverse circulation drilling is to take place at the southern part of the banded iron formation (BIF) covering strike extensions at the 617 million tonne resource.

The Perth based company is working on the flagship project of Mt Bevan which is located 100 km west of Leonora in the central Yilgarn region. The Mt Bevan Iron Ore project is a joint venture between Legacy Iron Ore and Hawthorn Resources. The exploration company will earn a greater interest in the project once the project is developed further.

The terms of the joint venture specify that Legacy Iron Ore will earn a 60% interest in the Mt Bevan Iron Ore Project if it spends $3.5 million to develop the project to pre-feasibility status. The current drilling exploratory program seeks to double the current inferred resource at the Mt Bevan project. They hope to find 600 million to 800 million tonnes of iron ore in the grade of 30 to 40% Iron.

Currently Legacy Iron Ore is doing deep drilling on the southern part of the Western BIF target on the basis of several thick magnetite intersections made earlier by joint venture partner Hawthorn. The 11 km continuous magnetite bearing BIF unit is the target of the drill program. The drilling program is likely to finish in early November 2011.
