West Australian Premier Colin Barnett Says China Angry with Australia Over Mining Tax

China will help get Oakajee back on track but it is angry with Australia over its mining tax issues said Premier Colin Barnett. He signed a draft agreement with the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission on behalf of Western Australia for an investment accord to get the stalled Oakajee port and rail project going again.

This is an unprecedented action for the National Development and Reform Commission as it is the first time that the Chinese government body has signed an agreement with a state government rather than the central, national government.

The bilateral agreement is to boost trade and investment as per Premier Barnett. He signed the memorandum of understanding with the peak economic planning body of China while he was on a two day visit to China last week. He added that there was no doubt this was hitching their rail cart to China

He added that the willingness of Asian economic powerhouse to deal directly with WA was a sign of China's anger and resentment towards the federal government over its proposed mining tax. Premier Barnet said that China sees that as a tax directed at them, and are extremely resentful about that.' He said that they certainly were very angry over the mining tax and they raised that repeatedly at the meetings over the last few days.
