Anglo American mining company headed by CEO Cynthia Carrol reported an increase in its third quarter production for most commodities. In an overall consistent performance the company has seen increased productivity in the quarter ending September 2010.
The output of Anglo Platinum rose to 697,000 ounces in the September quarter, as the company sought to cash in on the rising prices. This was an 11% increase in refined platinum production compared to the same quarter in 2009. It is on target to meet its full year goal of producing 2.5 million ounces.
The production of refined palladium increased by 20% in the quarter and over all iron ore production was also higher than last year. The production of rhodium was however down by 3%. Production of manganese ore increased by 84% and manganese alloys increased by 220%, as market conditions continued to recover.
Nickel production was up 16% for the quarter ending September 2010 and the Barro Alto project was expected to double the company's nickel production. Diamond production had also been boosted at Anglo American's subsidiary, De Beers in a measure to cater for the upcoming holiday season.
