Owing to a shut down of the uranium processing plant at its Ranger mine the Energy Resources Australia shares dropped and global prices for the mineral jumped up.
The Baffinland Iron Ore company has a set of new owners and several new faces on its board of directors. The company which was recently taken over by ArcelorMittal and Nunavut Iron Ore has seen five of its old board member resign. The board has also been increased in size from 9 to 11 members.
China's Zijin Mining Group has been fined $4.6 million approximately for the toxic spill from its mine in the Fujian province last July.

Colombia lost five mine workers as a result of a gas explosion in a mine in the central province of Cundinamarca. A sixth miner was injured in the blast which came shortly after the Colombian government promised to look over safety measures to prevent such tragedies which have become the norm of late in the country.

Xstrata plans to be the first company in Queensland to export magnetite concentrate. The product which is used in steel making will be processed in the brand new magnetite base plant at Xstrata’s Ernest Henry mine located near Cloncurry.
