Open Pit Iron Ore Mine Planned for North Wisconsin

Mining company Gogebic Taconite wants to develop an open pit mine for iron ore in north Wisconsin. The project would cost about $1 billion and the company has bought an option to lease the mineral rights on 22,000 acres in Ashland and Iron counties.

Vale SA Looks to Pump $10 Billion into Canada

Brazilian mining giant Vale SA is looking forward to investing about $10 billion in Canadian Mining. Vale had entered Canada by taking over Inco Ltd, a nickel mining company in 2006. The company had paid nearly $20 billion for the investment however things have not gone too smoothly for Vale in Canada.

Vedanta Resources to List Zambian Copper Arm on London Stock Exchange

Indian mining company Vedanta Resources is going to list its Zambian copper arm on the London Stock Exchange in a bid to raise $1.1 billion as per a statement by the firm on Tuesday. The Konkola Copper Mines are owned 79% by Vedanta Resources.

Adhunik Metaliks Commences Operations in Orissa

Indian steelmaker Adhunik Metaliks said that it had commenced operations at three mines in the Indian state of Orissa despite not having received all regulatory approvals to begin the development of the iron ore deposits in the state. The three mines in question are Tentulidihi, Sanpatholi and Kusunidihi.

Brockman Resources Knocks Back Chinese Offer

Brockman Resources has decided to reject the offer made by the Chinese company Wah Nam International. The iron ore producing company chairman Barry Cusack said that the board of directors would be calling unanimously for share holders to refuse the $930 million offer from the Hong Kong listed company.
