An international development organization called “Bread for All” located in Switzerland said that the definition of “Blood Diamonds” needed to be amended to include human rights violations by government forces.

The state owned Rosatom Corp’s purchase of 51% of the Canadian company Uranium One Inc will put it in a position to control about half of the U.S. uranium production. The Russian company which recently took charge of uranium mines in Wyoming is barred from exporting produced material.
Vedanta Resources plc (LSE:VED) has bought the Skorpion zinc mine in Namibia from Anglo American group. The $707 million deal is part of the Anglo American sale of its zinc portfolio announced earlier in the year.

Mines in Queensland, Australia are being affected by flooding caused by heavy rain over the east coast of Australia. With ten years of drought the mining companies had not planned for water management in case of floods. Now the coal mines in the region are flooded and looking more like dams.
