The Kayenta mine on the Navajo and Hopi reservations has been given a renewed operating permit. The mine in northern Arizona is owned by Peabody Energy Corp. The coal from the mine is used to feed the Navajo Generating Station.

More mining records were set by St Andrew Goldfields as they announced a record 22,350 ounces of gold for the last quarter of 2011. This is a 12% increase in the production of gold from the third quarter of 2011.
Energy Resources of Australia has forewarned of a drop in production levels due to flooding in the Ranger pit in the Northern Territory. ERA said that the rainfall flooding has prevented it from accessing high grade ore.

Grange Resources Limited has decided to go ahead with a definitive feasibility study at its Southdown iron ore project as its mineral resource estimate has grown to 698 million tones. The resource estimate is the result of a drilling program that was undertaken a year ago.
Vale the largest producer of iron ore in the world had said that it will lose 2 million metric tons of iron ore due to the heavy rains that are plaguing three states of Brazil. The mining giant has declared force majeure on iron ore shipments.
Australian company Capital Gold Pty Ltd has signed a deal yesterday with Dizon Copper Silver Mines Inc. for the recovery of 110 million tons of gold and copper in its tailings dam in San Marcelino, Zambales in the Philippines.

Integra Mining Limited has released the assays of the follow up diamond drilling at its Imperial prospect. The assays returned high grade gold copper intersections at 6.2 meters at 13.43 grams per tonne of gold and 1.5% of copper.

Hecla Mining Company is planning to cut 200 jobs at its Lucky Friday silver mine in Idaho. The mine has been shut down for a year by federal investigators. The accident prone mine has caused the company shares to fall 23% to a two year low of $4.25 on Wednesday.
