French Nuclear Energy company Areva has expressed plans to mine for uranium in an area called Koongarra in the Northern Territory of Australia. However the small area has been donated by the traditional owner Jeffrey Lee to the Commonwealth and the Federal Government wants to include it in the world hertitage listed Kakadu National Park.

Denison Mines Corporation sent the White Canyon Uranium Company a compulsory acquisition notice. Denison Mines already holds 97% of Perth based White Canyon and will acquire the remaining 3% shortly.
Rio Tinto has increased its stake in Ivanhoe to 55.1 million shares making it the owner of 46.5% of the company.
Having discovered a high grade vein system at its Mexican mine Gold Resource Corporation has decided to proceed with the El Rey mine underground exploration program. It will also be advancing its new underground exploration program at the Alta Gracia property. The company made a statement to this effect on Tuesday.
The latest survey on ‘fly in, fly out’ mine workers in Queensland suggests that 75% of the residents feel that the mining industry’s policy negatively impacts the community. Queensland University of Technology's Professor Kerry Carrington conducted the research on the use of non-resident workforces in Bowen Basin mining communities.

Hong Kong based investment company Wah Nam has managed to conclude a hostile takeover of Brockman Resources to consolidate its position in the Pilbara region.
Capstone Mining has reported high grades of copper at its Cozamin Mine in Zacatecas, Mexico. The measured and indicated resources are being estimated at 1.45 million tonnes with 2.32% copper, 0.17% zinc and 36.6 g/t silver for 74.2 million pounds of contained copper.
The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration announced that the emergency rule on controlling coal dust implemented last year in underground mines is now permanent. The rule was instated in September 2010 about five months after the explosion at the Upper Big Branch mine in West Virginia killed 29 miners.

The million acre zone around the Grand Canyon will be safe from uranium mining for another 20 years as the Obama administration decided to place a ban on mining in the area. Uranium mining claims in the area had risen greatly over the last seven years.
