Calibre Mining has announced high grade gold and silver results from its exploration activities at the Riscos de Oro property in Nicaragua. The reported gold and silver results from its recently concluded drilling program helped boost the shares in the Canadian company up by 15% on Monday.
CGA Mining is picking up the pace for exploration at the Masbate Gold Project in the Philippines. The company has allotted $20 million for exploration activities in the financial year 2012. This is nearly three times the budget for exploration in 2011 which was set at $7 million for the gold mining project.

A potential mine site in Australia’s Northern Territory is in trouble with the traditional land owners. The massive iron ore deposit in the Gulf of Carpentaria is now the site of a controversy. Miners want to run a slurry line to Maria Island and the indigenous Aboriginal community say that the land is a deeply sacred place that hosts a poison tee that will kill them.

Gina Rinehart and Angela Bennet, the two richest mining heiresses in Australia have put aside past differences to form a team to sue Rio Tinto. Angela Bennet’s brother Michael Wright joins them in their quest. Collectively are after a bigger share of the iron ore mining industry profits in Western Australia.
Mr Eric Ripper pledged at a public rally that no uranium mines would be allowed in Western Australia. He even promised to close any operating uranium mine if they won the election in 2013. He added that no compensation would be paid to mines which are involved in exploration and development work in the state.
