Rio Tinto Alcan says that it will invest $10 million in the expansion of the Vaudreuil Works alumina refinery in Jonquière, Quebec.
The expansion of the Canadian bauxite residue containment site was excellent news for Vaudreuil Works according to CEO of Rio Tinto Alcan, Gervais Jacques.
The expansion of the mine will also help to extend the life of the plant. The work on the expansion is likely to begin in end November 2010. It will take about three years for the upgrade to be carried out.
The Vaudreuil Works is the largest inorganic chemicals centre in Canada as it produces 1.5 million tonnes of alumina and other chemicals annually. The production at the plant had been dropped in September with the decline in global demand for its produce.
