The 33 trapped miners in Chile will be rescued before October 15 as per the president Sebastian Pinera. He hoped to be present to see the rescue before he left for a trip to Europe later this month. He is scheduled to be in Europe between October 15 and 22.
The president had told the miners on August 22, 2010 that they would be rescued before Christmas and his team had made good on that promise. Hundreds of rescue workers have dug through half a mile of rock to get through to the miners. For the last few weeks the miners have been receiving clean clothes, medicines, food and other supplies through a capsule.
A larger sized capsule which will bring out the miners is currently at the mine site. The miners have been underground now for 59 days since the collapse on August 5, 2010 trapped them. Senior rescue chief Andre Sougarret understood how anxious everyone including the families of the miners are to rescue the men but he warned against taking unnecessary risks.
