Focus Ventures Ltd. is pleased to report that it has started exploration on its 100% owned Katenwill concessions in the northern part of the Department of Puno in the Province of Carabaya, Southern Peru. The Katenwill project is located in the Southern Peru Slate Belt, an emerging orogenic gold district.
Focus's claims cover 5,500 hectares contiguous with Lupaka Gold Corp.'s Crucero discovery (TSX: LPK, "Lupaka") and split into two parcels that cover lands immediately northwest and southeast of Lupaka's claims. To date, Lupaka has outlined 1,144,667 oz gold in the Indicated Resource category (34.6 million tonnes grading 1.03 g/t Au) and 646,716 oz in the Inferred Resource category (29 million tonnes at 0.69 g/t Au)*. Other major gold projects in the region include the Ollachea deposit situated some 70km to the northwest which contains 1.4 million ounces gold in Indicated Resources**.
The regional geology at Katenwill consists of deformed slates and sandstones of Palaeozoic age that are associated with intrusive rocks. Gold mineralization at Crucero occurs as finely banded sulphide laminations composed of pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, stibnite, chalcopyrite and gold hosted in a sequence of deformed slates and siltstones. The mineralization has a strong structural control and appears to be associated with silicified and chlorized north-west trending ridges. Guides to mineralization include a strong geochemical correlation of gold with arsenic and antimony, and association with quartz veinlets and magnetic pyrrhotite.
Work planned by Focus includes geological and structural mapping, rock and soil geochemistry followed by ground magnetic surveys and trenching of targets.
