Golden Star Resources announced that it had restarted its mining operations at the Pampe gold deposit in Ghana. The Pampe mine is situated near the company owned Bogoso processing plant in Ghana. This should help increase the production and reduce the cash operating costs for the mine.
Comstock Mining Inc. said that it wished to restart the gold and silver mining operations at the historic Comstock Lode site in Virginia City. The Comstock cache was discovered in 1859 and helped fund Union efforts in the Civil War and the construction of the city of San Francisco. The company added that they had been awarded the necessary permit from the state environmental regulators for this activity.

At the North Star Deposit Excelsior Mining Corp. has announced a resource estimate of oxide copper (Cu) at 3.21 billion pounds (511 million tons at 0.31% Cu) and an additional inferred resource of 0.88 billion pounds Cu (159 million tons at 0.28% Cu) as indicated. The details were in a National Instrument (NI) 43- 101 Technical Report dated August 31, 2011.

Australian company Coal of Africa Limited has been granted a license to mine near the Mapungubwe World Heritage site in Limpopo, South Africa. The company signed a deal on Thursday with the department of environmental affairs and South African National Parks (SANParks).

Timmins Gold has reported the results of the drilling program that was completed during June and July in 2011 at the current La Chicharra open pit, which is situated 2 km to the western part of the San Francisco open pit, in Sonora State, Mexico.

Canadian company Mosquito Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd has received final approval from the US Forest Service to begin exploration in Idaho. The company will be looking for molybdenum (Mo) in the Boise National Forest where the world’s largest such deposit of the silvery metal is said to be located.
In Guinea the new National Transitional Council has begun debating a mining code that proposes the government own a 35 percent stake in commodity companies. Rumors have it that the code recommends a free participation level of 15 percent for the government and the right to buy another 20 percent.
