Sigdo Koppers, an industrial engineering conglomerate based in Chile, has agreed to buy Magotteaux Group, a Belgian mining and cement services company for the sum of $ 790 million. The acquisition deal follows the sale of 64% stake Sigdo Koppers held in appliance manufacturer Compania Tecno Industrial SA. The stake was sold to Electrolux AB, the Swedish home appliance making company.

Perseus Mining is an Australian company focused on West African gold resources. Shares in the company went up as it announced its first pouring of gold from the Central Ashanti Gold Project in Ghana.
A group of nuclear opponents are beginning a trek from Wiluna to Perth to protest against the uranium mining industry in Western Australia. The 1250 km march is being led by the group that calls themselves Walk Away From Uranium Mining.

Hugo Chavez has signed the law that makes the nationalization of the country’s gold mining industry legal. The signing took place at a ministerial meeting broadcast by state media. The natural law reserves the exploration and management of gold, as well as the connected activities, to the state.

Avocet Mining has increased its estimates for mineral resources at the Inata gold mine by 59%. The gold mining company has previously said that the mine in Burkina Faso has resources of 3.36 million ounces of gold. The announcement pushed up the shares of the company by 10%
Canadian company Silvercorp Metals Inc is hoping to buy a 90% stake in two Chinese mining companies through its subsidiary company Henan Found Mining. The buyout will cost Silvercorp Metals $ 10 million. Silvercorp Metals has a 77.5 % stake in Henan Found Mining Company.
The African National Congress has been thinking about the nationalization of mines in South Africa for some time now, and it does not make the investors happy. While the South African ruling party has said that 26% of the mining industry ownership needs to be transferred to African owners by 2014, the investors fear that they may ask for more.

Selwyn Resources is to issue bonds to raise $ 30 million to restart the ScoZinc mine at Gays River in Nova Scotia. The mining at the zinc lead mine was suspended in 2009 as the metal prices fell and made the operations economically unviable.
