The Zijin Mining Group is to buy another 138.35 million shares of Norton Gold for $29.998 million. The Chinese company is buying the shares in the Australian gold producer in a bid to increase their gold reserves.
Iluka Resources is to resume mining operations at its Eneabba project located in the Mid West of Western Australia. The project was halted in 2010 due to low grades of ore and lower margins. Mining is likely to resume by end of the year at the project. The company will also restart its synthetic rutile kiln 3 for a commercial campaign.
Grizzly Discoveries has filed for a permit to acquire a new industrial and metallic mineral in Alberta enclosing around 4,672 ha to increase its present land assets of over 2.4 million acres for the Alberta potash project. The location of the permit is 67 km northeast of the Medicine Hat City along the Saskatchewan boundary.
AMEX Exploration has received all the essential license and permits for the drilling program at the Nueva Escondida property.

The National Aluminum Company Ltd (NALCO) has obtained the final forest clearance permit for bauxite mining in the Indian state of Orissa. The renewal of its bauxite mining lease for the Panchpatmali South Block in Koraput district of Orissa for 20 more years required the diversion of 110.3 hectares of forest land.

The Ahafo underground mining project owned by Newmont Ghana will commence in 2013-14. The mine is located in Kenyasi, the capital of the Asutifi District in the Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana. The project is part of the Subika mine site.
The rescue of 33 miners trapped in an underground mine in Chile is now going to hit the big screen. Producer Mike Medavoy maker of the Black Swan and his company Phoenix Pictures have come to an agreement with the miners to turn their ordeal into a motion picture.

Quadra FNX Mining said that there has been a 20% increase in the second quarter production for 2011. The combined payable production included 55 million pounds of copper, 27 thousand ounces of total precious metals and 2 million pounds of nickel.

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) has won a landmark case against Rio Tinto in Western Australia. The full bench of the Federal Court has ruled that the non-union collective agreements that Rio Tinto had with its mine workers in the Pilbara region were invalid.
