Ironclad Mining is making great progress on developing the Wilcherry Hill Iron Ore Project in South Australia. There has been an estimated 69.3 million tonnes of near surface crystalline magnetite ore discovered at Wilcherry Hill. Of this 48 million tonnes is indicated and 21 million tonnes is inferred.

President Obama seems to be sending out mixed signals as far as fuels and energy generation go. While the Obama administration has been saying that it is tough on dirty fuels the claim falls flat when you hear that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar yesterday announced an enormous expansion in coal-mining in the U.S. About 7,590 million tons of coal currently in federal land in Wyoming will soon be leased to mining companies.

Australian resources company BHP Billiton is going to make a capital investment of $9.5 billion to expand its Australian iron ore and coal mining operations. The largest miner in the world has now planned to expand its own mines after it failed to take over three acquisition targets in the last year.

The BG Group has decided to halt the construction of the coal seam gas pipeline of its Australian arm QGC. The $15 billion worth Queensland Curtis Island coal seam gas to LNG project has run into a wall thanks to some of its environmental management plans having not been approved. QCG made the announcement about halting work on the pipeline last Thursday.

The late Ken Talbot’s Talbot Group has sold its stake in Sundance Resources to a Chinese company. The 15.95% stake in Sundance Resources was sold for $19.08 million by the group to iron ore explorer Hanlong Mining. The shares were sold at 44c each.

The Chief of Rio Tinto Tom Albanese is unhappy at the government interference in the development of new projects around the world. He said that it was the curse of resource nationalism that prevented mining firms from meeting the strong global demand for commodities. He was speaking at a conference in Hong Kong when he said that Rio Tinto had to do a better job of handling deals with government officials.
