Thermo Fisher Launches Next-Gen In-Stream Analyzers for Safer, Smarter Slurry Elemental Analysis

Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Newest Range of In-Stream Analyzers for Safer and More Accurate Slurry Elemental Analysis.

Overview:

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of the next generation Thermo Scientific AnStat-430 Online Sampling and Elemental Analysis Station and the MSA-430 Multi-Stream Analyzer, online systems designed for accurate, real-time elemental analysis of mineral slurry streams in processing plants. While both systems take a representative sample from the slurry stream for the MEP-400 analysis, the AnStat is best used in single stream operations, while the MSA powers the analysis of multiple streams. Both analyzers now feature the Thermo Scientific MEP-400 Multi-Element Probe, which significantly improves analytical performance and lowers detection limits to help customers recover more valuable material even in low grade tailings.

With the latest X-ray tube technology, the MEP-400 probe offers a 10-fold improvement in copper lower limit of detection compared to previous versions. By using an air-cooled low-power X-ray tube in place of traditional radioisotope sources, the probe improves safety, simplifies compliance and reduces operating costs. Use of a modern Silicon Drift Detector and Digital Signal Processor increases the probe’s performance and count-rate throughput, improving accuracy across a wide range of elements without the need for cryogenic cooling.

Used with the AnStat and MSA, the MEP-400 enables customers to gain a more accurate understanding of their process in real time. This allows them to streamline operations, improve metal recovery, reduce material losses, and quickly respond to process changes. The probe is also available as an upgrade for existing AnStat and MSA analyzer users extending equipment life, improving performance and providing improved process insights to enable ultimate control

Example Applications:

  • Base and precious metal flotation circuits
  • Rougher, cleaner, and tailings stream analysis
  • New or expansion projects using online XRF slurry analyzers
  • Upgrading existing AnStat and MSA analyzer installations

Features/Benefits:

  • X-ray Tube Based Operation: Replaces traditional radioisotope sources with a low-power X-ray tube and integrated safety controls, reducing radiation exposure concerns and regulatory overheads. The system can be safely powered off and locked out, enhancing operational safety and simplifying maintenance.
  • Enhanced Analytical Performance: Delivers a 10x improvement in detection limits compared to the MEP-300 for multiple elements, resulting in improved accuracy, and ensuring more reliable performance across varying concentrations.
  • Upgrade-Friendly and Compatible: Fully compatible with legacy AnStat and MSA systems, enabling a straightforward upgrade path. The MEP-400 also extends the life and value of existing Thermo Scientific slurry analyzers without the need for full system replacement.
  • Reliable Process Control: Provides real-time elemental assay data to help metallurgists, operators and process engineers manage throughput, improve recovery, and reduce losses. Reduces delays and complexity by minimizing lab testing.
