Castle Resources has completed the 17 km long haulage tunnel rehabilitation, which links the Granduc mine location and the haulage road that leads directly to the port facilities in Stewart, B.C.
Castle Resources’ CEO and President, Mr. Mike Sylvestre, this tunnel rehabilitation is a milestone to advance the Granduc copper project. The company is clearly positioned by the potential for safe mine access. The next aim is to rehabilitate the exploration drifts and planned underground levels for additional definition of copper resource.
He added that the company likes to thank the crews and management of Procon Mining and Tunneling for completing the rehabilitation. The company had a perfect record for safety and completing within the budget and on schedule. This is an important milestone of rehabilitating the length of the tunnel. It is to note that this work had not been done in 27 years.
During mid-1960s, Newmont Mining built a 17 km long Granduc tunnel. This company is the primary operator and developer of the Granduc mine. The tunnel was designed for the efficient and quick rail transportation of people, ore and supplies between the mill and the underground mine.
