VMS Ventures has announced the beginning of the drill program at its projects located near Snow Lake. Cowan River, McClarty, Morton Lake and Puella Bay are the projects chosen for this year’s drilling program. The company has awarded the drill contract to Westcore Drilling of British Columbia.

Mining operations have resumed at the Collahuasi copper mine in Chile. The world’s third largest copper mine had seen a production halt following the death of a worker. The mine had an output of 453,000 tonnes of copper last year. This was down by 10% compared to the previous year.

Rio Tinto has discovered an unprecedented 12.76 carat pink diamond at its Kimberly mining operations. The huge rough stone has been named the "Argyle Pink Jubilee". It will take 10 days to cut and polish this rare and precious stone.
The Bullant gold mine in Western Australia has stopped mining operations as the Kalgoorie Mining Company announced that it had missed production targets and also had seen its processing costs rising.
Centurion Minerals, an Indonesian-based company, has declared that the newly identified vuggy massive silica outcrops in the Simpang Tiga and Zulham prospects revealed gold showings that have expanded the gold zone, located in the Banda Raya, Northern Sumatra property, to about 2.5 km.
Metals Creek Resources declared that it has started a diamond drilling program on the Ogden Property located in the Timmins Gold Camp, Ontario. The Ogden property encloses 8 km of strike length of the Porcupine-Destor Break between Lake Shore Gold's West Timmins development project and Goldcorp's Dome Mine.

Medusa Mining has reported that its revenue for last year was down by 47% compared to the previous year. The dually listed company generated $40.9 million last year as compared to $78.3 million in 2010. The shortfall was a result of planned expansion and development of its Co-O gold mine.
A federal inquiry team studying the effects of the ‘fly in fly out’ workforce is moving around regions that are affected by this mining practice. The inquiry is being conducted by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Regional Australia to see exactly how the mobile workforce impacts the local community.

Mosaic Fertilizer will now be allowed to mine at a key Florida site as it has managed to settle a dispute with the Sierra Club. The announcement made on Tuesday saw the fertilizer company’s shares immediately rise by 2.3% and in afterhours trading it went up by 3.7%.
