Bard Ventures has received the 2011 phase I primary drilling results from its Lone Pine property. The results of the drill hole BD-11-67 has shown the high-grade mineralization persisting through the drill hole intercept regions that are extensively spaced.

Driven Capital has obtained the results of re-assayed rock samples from the Lyn silver project. The rock sample LR-024 has returned 9,970 g/t of silver through assaying and was certified by ALS Canada.

Researchers have come up with a new way to remove uranium from contaminated groundwater which should come as a major boost to the mining industry. Much of the opposition to uranium mining is based on the environmental damage done to ground water in the region.

In Zimbabwe the Murowa diamond mine owned by Rio Tinto group is among the 45 mining operations which have managed to comply with the new rules on black citizen’s ownership. The Indigenization Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said that it was amongst the few companies that were already compliant with the policy to cede 51% ownership to black Zimbabweans.
Standard Chartered has bought the mining advisory firm Gryphon Partners. The deal has been in the offing for a while and was made in a bid to expand the influence of Standard Chartered into Canada and Australia. The specialised corporate advisor presently has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver.

The President of Peru Ollanta Humala has given his approval to a law which gives the indigenous communities a right to be consulted over development being planned on their lands. The law was enacted by President Humala in Bagua which is a region in the Amazon where more than 30 people were killed in 2009 while protesting against oil and mining projects.

The Brazilian miner Vale SA is likely to sell its giant bulk carrier ships to China. The world’s largest iron ore producer had commissioned more than a dozen such ships but has decided that it does not want to become a major freight operator.
German utility company RWE AG is hoping to off-load its share in the uranium enrichment company Urenco. It owns the company jointly with E.ON AG and the UK and Dutch governments. The UK and Dutch governments both own one third of the company Urenco and RWE and E.ON own the remaining.
