OZ Minerals is hoping to begin construction of a mine at the Carrapateena copper and gold project by mid 2015. The company recently acquired the project located in South Australia for $250 million from Adelaide-based prospector Rudy Gomez and the Australian arm of Canadian mining giant Teck in the month of May.
China is temporarily halting the production of a rare earth metals in three mining districts in Jiangxi Province city. The Xinhua News Agency said that Gangzhou which is the largest producer of the rare earth metal called dysprosium has been ordered to comply strictly with the annual production quota.

Rio Tinto and Anglo American are planning to sell their respective stakes in the Palabora Mining Co. Palabora Mining is the largest copper producing company in South Africa.

A new report that was commissioned by the Minerals Council of Australia says that miners will pay close to $23.4 billion in tax to federal and state governments in 2010-11 financial year. Deloitte Access Economics said in the report that the mining industry has paid an average tax of 41.5% from the financial years between 2007-8 to 2009-10.

Minotaur Exploration has discovered a copper-gold mineralization trend which is 10 km long in the Cormorant prospect located near Cloncurry. The discovery was made during a recent drilling and geo-physics based exploratory program at the prospect in western Queensland.

Venture Minerals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Grange Resources for magnetite off-take from the Mt Lindsay tin and tungsten deposit in north-west Tasmania. The deal was signed on Monday.

Millrock Resources has pronounced the phase I additional drilling results from the Uncle Sam gold project, located in the Tintina Gold Belt of Alaska.
Golden Star Resources announced that it had restarted its mining operations at the Pampe gold deposit in Ghana. The Pampe mine is situated near the company owned Bogoso processing plant in Ghana. This should help increase the production and reduce the cash operating costs for the mine.
Comstock Mining Inc. said that it wished to restart the gold and silver mining operations at the historic Comstock Lode site in Virginia City. The Comstock cache was discovered in 1859 and helped fund Union efforts in the Civil War and the construction of the city of San Francisco. The company added that they had been awarded the necessary permit from the state environmental regulators for this activity.
