Columbus Silver Corporation saw its stock jump up by nearly 60% as news that it was to be acquired by US based company Santa Fe Gold Corporation for $10 million came to light. The all cash deal will see Santa Fe pay 20 cents per share for the 36 million shares of the Vancouver based Columbus Silver Corp.

Barrick Gold said that it had found two significant gold discoveries in the state of Nevada. The two discoveries are called Red Hill and Goldrush. They are located 6 km south east of the Cortez Hills mine and 24 km south east of the Pipeline mine. The largest gold producer in the world is now trying to rebuild its focus on gold even as it makes headway into copper mining.
The Copper Mountain Mining Corporation announced that it had completed loading its first shipment of concentrate to Japan from the Copper Mountain Mine.

Mining mergers and acquisitions have had a strong start this year but are expected to now slow down. Global mining deals in the first six months of 2011 were worth $71 billion and encompassed 1,379 mining mergers and acquisitions.

In Zimbabwe the Murowa diamond mine owned by Rio Tinto group is among the 45 mining operations which have managed to comply with the new rules on black citizen’s ownership. The Indigenization Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said that it was amongst the few companies that were already compliant with the policy to cede 51% ownership to black Zimbabweans.
Standard Chartered has bought the mining advisory firm Gryphon Partners. The deal has been in the offing for a while and was made in a bid to expand the influence of Standard Chartered into Canada and Australia. The specialised corporate advisor presently has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver.
