Medusa Mining has announced that it has produced 25,114 ounces of gold in the March quarter. The Philippines focused Australia and Canadian listed miner said that gold production costs were US$191 per ounce after being recovered from an average grade of 11.58 g/t gold ore.

Sandvik Mining and Construction and Shandong Energy Machinery Co. in Xintai, Shandong Province, China, have signed an agreement to form a 50/50 owned joint venture for the production and sales of coal mining equipment.

Frontier Mining announced that it was restarting the mining and crushing operations at the Koskuduk mine. The gold mining operations at Koskuduk had been shut down in November 2010 for the winter season. The mine was scheduled for a May opening but with good weather having played a major role the mine is being restarted a week earlier.
BHP Billiton boss Marius Kloppers feels that the Chief Executive Officers of China’s state owned companies had unrealistic expectation of how quickly you can commission projects in Australia. He added that the failure of mining investments has made the global prices for commodities stay at record levels.
The Queensland Government has come under criticism by a state MP for agreeing to have health care financed by the mining industry. The Queensland Gas company is going to fund the construction of a new satellite renal unit at Gladstone hospital and upgrades to the operating theatre, as announced by Premier Anna Bligh.

In the west African nation of Guinea mining giant Rio Tinto has signed an agreement with the government to construct a new mining port. The agreement was signed by its subsidiary Simfer S.A. According to the deal the company will pay the government US$700 million and gain mining concessions in the country.
